Transitional Style: Seasonless Dressing with Jibri

Tuesday, March 24, 2015
Have you welcomed Spring to your door yet?  Here in the South, we have a complicated relationship with Spring.  We may experience a couple days of pure spring weather bliss with temperatures in the upper 70's and then the next day things drop down to the 40's (Yes, this is chilly to a southern girl) and my feeling are officially hurt.  During this time,  I try to keep my wardrobe in transition mode.  Wearing the colors of the season,  but in materials or styles for my current weather. It is always a good thing to build your wadrobe with at least 6 seasonless garments.
(Flashbulb!! This just became a series)

My first favorite is this dress from JIRBI.  Truly one of my favorite designers for sometime now, I own about five beautiful JIBRI pieces and my collection seems to increase every year.  I purchased this dress last year, I wanted to add some new colors to my closet and play with some new designs for work wear. The pencil and full skirt have been my work wear standards and I wanted to switch things up a bit. Thus my selection of the JIBRI Boat Neck Dress in Teal

The first thing I noticed about this dress was the draped structure on the hips.  My first thought was this design would make my lower extremities look more fuller than they already are in reality.
To my very pleasant surprise, the draping provided that extra UMP to my hourglass shape but making my midsection appear smaller and the waist ties are great!

And can I mention for a brief second that this beauty has pockets!!!
Perfection is a dress with pockets. Period.

I can definitely see more ways to wear this in the up and coming seasons.  What do you think?

Work that Skirt! featuring the Black Ribbed Panel Midi Skirt from Yours Clothing UK

Thursday, March 19, 2015

Morning Dolls!!

Today we talk about building the work wardrobe.  I begin my blogging journey only focusing on work wear for plus size women, because my life consists of work, work and work.  There are time I am relax and I play with the causally chic looks, but if you have been following me for awhile you know I'm all about the work wear.  So back to my roots, I go.

Get the Skirt HERE!

Every girl needs a Black Midi Pencil Skirt for various occasions in life.  You have so many fashionable options when it comes to this one piece.  Wear it with denim, sequins, a crisp white skirt, a chunky sweater or tank,,,,Again endless options. Some of these I may explore more of this month. Right now though, It's all about working a Midi Pencil Skirt.  Preferably this Black Ribbed Panel Midi Skirt With Elasticated Waist from Yours Clothing UK.  This midi offers style, sophistication and savings. Only $36 for a great black midi with interesting ribbed detail on the side.....Kinda Fun...Right?!

For work, I decide I still wanted to play with the Utilitarian Chic trend that I featured earlier this month using a great parka from Yours Clothing as well. I added a cute black and white graphic print top from It's Fashion, here is a similar one from Modcloth with a khaki military inspired peplum jacket from Belk's which is sold out, but here is something similar  also from Modcloth.  I finished with my favorite tribal statement necklace that I purchased over 10 years at an African Festival.  I want to give the look a tribal feel...just because.  Finishing the look with black pumps and purse.

Midi Pencil Skirt are the perfect closet essential that has various functions in the wardrobe. Make sure you pick up one...or two.....I have four....No judgement.

To achieve this look is super easy.  Links Below

Queen of the Night

Prom season is here and for a young plus size queen finding the perfect dress this can be a bit of a challenge.  When one of my younger  readers reached out to me and expressed her need for a plus size dress that would reflect her ladylike attitude, I can to comply.  I remember the struggles of looking for a prom dress when I was younger, it was somewhat of a depressing search because options were few and far between.  Now a days,  many options are available for my young beauties. Here are my favorite looks created for the Plus Size Beauty Queen.

For the Love of Spring

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Hey Luvs,

Spring is gently approaching and I'm becoming so eager to enjoy it's moments of warm weather, bright colors and good times outside.  The absolutely best part about the spring season is breaking away from the wintertime's tights and wearing fun, flirty skirts.  My favorite skirt for any season is the full midi skirt. Take a look at my ten favorite spring skirts from yesterday's post.

This skirt from Eloquii was the perfect pre-spring pick me up that I needed.   A friend to all shapes, the midi is that one easy wardrobe piece that has tons of options and can work most body types. For instance, I'm very blessed in the lower half of my body.  The midi skirt compliments my hips and make my legs look...dare I say....Flawless.

To create this look, I decided to mix prints with my top from Ashley Stewart. This tribal print tank is sold out, but I did find something similar. I finished with my striped textured blazer from Belk's Crown and Ivy collection.  I've had this jacket for about a year so this item was also sold out, but Eloquii has one very similar.  As you may notice,  I'm still shopping my closet and feeling so impressed with what I have been finding.  Go Me Go!!!!
I completed the look with a vintage beaded necklace, straw clutch and nude pumps.

For information on this AMAZING mural behind me celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Right March, see below.

Are you ready for Spring? What are excited to wear?

Something Extra!
There's alot of joy in my post today.  I'm so happy to be standing in front of this mural commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March. This is one of the many murals painted around the downtown area of my hometown, Montgomery, Alabama. When I first saw the artist prep for this mural a month ago, I had many questions; I wondered what was her vision?  How would she bring it all together?  What would the outcome be?  In my personal opinion the outcome is AMAZING!!!! See the entire process from start to finish here.
